Flowy Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 6, 2026

Flowy is a personal finance app developed by Erika Gherardi. This page explains what data the app uses and how it’s handled.

The basic principle

Flowy is designed to have no access to your data. There is no Flowy server: your transactions, accounts, categories, and subscriptions stay on your iPhone and, if you enable iCloud, are synced exclusively through your own personal Apple account.

What data is collected

Flowy collects and stores, only on your device and in your personal iCloud, the following:

  • Transactions (income, expenses, transfers) you enter manually or via the receipt scanner
  • Accounts you create (name, balance, type)
  • Spending categories, including custom ones
  • Recurring subscriptions you set up
  • App preferences (currency, theme, cycle start day, budget settings)

None of this data is ever sent to Flowy servers or third parties. There are no Flowy servers: the app has no backend.

Camera, photo library, and receipt scanner

Flowy uses the camera, or a photo chosen from your library, to automatically read receipt amounts. Text recognition (OCR) happens entirely on your device, using Apple’s Vision technology. The photo, whether taken on the spot or picked from your library, is never saved or kept: it’s processed in memory to extract the amount and then immediately discarded. No image is ever uploaded online or shared with third parties. When you pick a photo from your library, Flowy only receives that specific selected image, without accessing or seeing the rest of your photos.

iCloud sync

If you’re signed in with an iCloud account on your iPhone, Flowy syncs your data across your personal Apple devices through CloudKit, Apple’s service. Your data stays within your private iCloud account: Apple manages the infrastructure according to its own privacy policy, but neither Flowy nor the developer has access to this information.

Notifications

Flowy may send you local notifications (daily reminder, subscription renewal alerts, budget thresholds). These notifications are generated and managed entirely on your device: they never pass through any external server.

Face ID / Touch ID

If you enable biometric lock, authentication happens through Apple’s secure systems (Face ID or Touch ID) directly on the device. Flowy never has access to your biometric data, which is managed by your iPhone’s Secure Enclave.

Siri and Shortcuts

If you use Siri voice commands or the Shortcuts app to interact with Flowy, voice processing happens through Apple’s systems according to their own privacy policy. Requested actions (e.g. “add an expense”) are executed locally on your device.

Importing and exporting data

When you export your data as CSV or PDF, the file is created on your device and shared only the way you choose (e.g. saving it, sending it by email, AirDrop). When you import a CSV file, reading happens locally: no data is uploaded anywhere during this process.

No advertising, no tracking

Flowy contains no advertising, doesn’t use behavioral analytics tools, and doesn’t integrate any third-party tracking libraries. We don’t monitor how you use the app.

Deleting your data

You can delete all your data at any time from Settings → Delete all data, or by uninstalling the app. If you’ve enabled iCloud, you can also manage syncing through your iPhone’s iCloud settings.

Children

Flowy is not specifically intended for an underage audience and does not knowingly collect data from children.

Changes to this policy

If this Privacy Policy changes, the update will be published on this same page with a new date at the top.
